Amazing Large Black steatite 4 groove shaft straightener that was found in Inyo Co, California and measures 4.5 inches long and is 2 inches tall at the side. This piece is extremely well made and has great form. It shows superb workmanship and the design is captivating. This piece has two bold carved designs. One has a stylized grooved area and the other has a raised area that appears to be a face. There are other lighter carvings on the sides. This rare relic was formerly in the collection of Ellen Woods and is illustrated in her book, American Indian Artifacts. This piece was also in the collection of Byron Anderson from Southern California and then Mitch Lewis from Illinois. One of the best known examples of the type.
