You will all enjoy this story written by the Editor of the Central States Journal, Steven Cooper.
Steven did not mention my name in the article, maybe he did not know who owned the "Not so real" or maybe he was just trying to protect my identity......but it was yours truly, and I am not embarrassed as it was just part of my education into collecting artifacts.
I am not ashamed to admit this was the first piece of pottery I ever owned. I bought it from the then Mayor of Hernando Mississippi who was a friend of the one and only Jack Roberts in Tunica Missississpi. Wilson L. “Buddy” Douglas, was elected as the city's 20th mayor and served two terms as mayor, from 1985-1993. Douglas passed away on July 5, 2017 at the age of 84. Buddy said that Jack Roberts gave him the Human Effigy because they were the best of friends and Jack wanted him to have it before he died.
Now that Mr Buddy is gone, I should tell the whole story, but I won't. I will only say that I spent a $2,000 dollars hiring a lawyer to sue him for selling me a fake but my advice is don't waste your money suing a former mayor of a town in his own town.
Enjoy the lesson and learn from it.
John
