A new cast, of what could be the oldest stone tool in North America. On the cover photo of a new book ACROSS ATLANTIC ICE, this biface was dredged up over 40 miles out to sea in the Chesapeake Bay, along with mastadon bones 75 meters beneath the sea level. Those associated Mastadon bones were dated to 23,000 years old. This biface showed usewear as a knife, and is made out of rhyolite eventually sourced to Pennsylvania. It measures about 7 and a half inches long, and is flaked in the style of the European Solutrean knives of the same time period. This fact has stirred up much debate, leading it to be a showcased topic at the recent Paleoindian Odyssey Conference in Santa Fe, 2013.
