This is flawless pair of Eskimo Carved and Polished Fossil Bone Detachable Harpoon Heads. These were mounted on spears with a line tied to the detachable harpoon head for retrieval. Once the spear had driven the head into a fish or seal, the head would detach and the hunter could pull the fish or seal in with the rope and not risk losing the valuable wooden spear shaft. Found on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska.
