Very fine quartz Autauga point Below are some comments about the type from the Handbook of Alabama Archaeology.
COMMENTS: The type was named for Autauga County, Alabama, where examples are made of vein quartz. This type is found in surface collections with Dalton, Big Sandy, Kirk Corner Notched, and Crawford Creek points. This association and the fact that the type has features similar to Decatur, Big Sandy, Palmer, and Crawford Creek points indicates an Early Archaic or Transitional Paleo-Indian provenience. I tried to get a photo of the steep bevels on this point. It is difficult to see with this quartz material. Its a well made point.base is ground into the notches.
