East Texas Caddo Effigy Style Dish
#TX512
I purchased this effigy dish as a "bag pot" from Mr. Maas, who was a Landscape Supplier in Seabrook, Texas. This is a thin and fragile piece that is 95% complete with 6 additional small shards that hadn't been re attached to the main body of the dish
Mr. Maas used to collect artifacts throughout East Texas for many years. He would then sell them from his nursery off Todville Road in Seabrook.
At times Mr. Maas would purchase broken pots from the various archaeology digs across Texas an d Central America. This was in the 50's and 60's when collecting laws were more lax than there are now.
These loose pottery pieces were assorted by vessel as best as possible, and put in a small paper bag. Mr. Mass would sell the "bag pots" and various other artifacts from his store in Seabrook.
The provenance of these individual pots was not carried down and it's rediscovered location is not currently known.
The glue can be dissolved with acetone or nail polish remover and reassembled professionally.
