The collection was out of Union County, Illinois, the flint is the Kaolin Flint that's local to that area--big point, just barely over 3&1/2" by 1&13/16", nearly 1/2" max thickness in the hafting area--VERY proportional. Balanced. The various characteristics of the piece make exact 'typing' somewhat of a "Well it has these features" project: mainly, the stem is ground, so that along would place the piece farther back in time than the Dixon points--more towards the later part of the Early Archaic into the Mid Archaic--that stem edge grinding, the serration to the blade, that's why I'd place the piece more in the Hidden Valley classification. Too, the stem has a deep thinning flake, nearly a flute, for hafting--that's an earlier technique than the later Dixon types used. The Kaolin Flint shows higher grade (higher silicate) inclusions surrounded by a cherty grain, every area patinated, authentic. Shipping is $5.00, checks or M.O.s welcomed. Sorry, I don't use paypal--Roy A.
