Up for sale is an authentic 2 5/8" Archaic Fractured-base Pentagonal arrowhead with good patina. It has good color banding. This relic was found in Knox County, Ohio. I purchased this point from the respected dealer Micah Cartwright who is from Peninsula, Ohio. This point came from the collection of Mike Barron (North Columbus, Ohio).
In his 2007 book, “Ohio Flint Types” Dr. Robert N. Converse states, “The Pentagonal is a major Ohio type. Pentagonal points were found in association with Ashtabula points and early pottery in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, and dated to approximately 1000 B.C.” Pentagonal points are from the Late Archaic Archaeological Period making them approximately 3,000 years old. The 14th Edition of the Official Overstreet Indian Arrowheads Identification and Price Guide, page 575, states that Snapped Base forms include Benton, Buck Creek, Decatur, Kirks and Lost Lake points and date from the Early to Middle Archaeological Periods and it is possible that this point could be older than 3,000 years old.
