The tip on this central Kentucky drill is dished, not a 'natural break', so was the piece chipped to this form intentionally, or was there an inclusion in the hornstone, something that popped-out. That I'm not sure, but when you see the unusual you try to place it in terms of other pieces you've either found (or owned)--sometimes hard to do. As you're handling the drill it's easily noted that there is work polish in the tip--it (the notch) had a use "secondary purpose" The piece has a ground base, so it's from one of the Early Archaic cultures, Pinetree or Lost Lake. As flat as that base is I'm inclined to call it a Lost Lake Drill. Note one side is rounded, one face is very flat--nothing accidental, the original knife/ dart was made this way. This one I'll call a "study piece" as it's easier to spend time understanding an artifact like this than it is some high grade point--they're more to learn, if that makes sense. Shipping is $5.00, checks or M.O.s are accepted, but paypal is not taken--Roy A..
