Up for sale is a group of 12 Hopewell Bladelets. The longest one is 2 1/2 inches long. Most are made from colorful flint ridge material. Bladelets are one of the Hopewell culture’s favorite flint artifacts. These bladelets were found near the Seip Mound Works in Ross County, Ohio, by Gary Davis a well-known Ohio collector. I purchased these nice artifacts from the respected collector and dealer Gaary Mumaw, (Versailles, Ohio).
In his book, “Ohio Flint Types”, on page 146, Dr. Robert N. Converse states, “Small, finely made prismatic bladelets are one the most diagnostic and easily recognized of all Hopewell traits. They are produced by a highly refined blade making technique and are known in no other culture.” Dr. Converse notes that the Hopewell culture time period was from 2,200 B.P. (before present time) to 1,500 B.P.
