It takes little more than a casual glance to know the piece is Paleo-- transitional Agate Basin (per G. Noel) a lanceolate form with two light fluting strikes on one side--thinning only on the reverse. I'm undecided if the flint is the McLean County, Kentucky, form of St. Louis Green flint (my classification), or one of the more creek stained Hornstone types to be seen. As I'm not the one putting a COA on it, taking Jerry Dickey's business away, I'll stay with the St. Louis Green based on one super small chip on the basal corner that doesn't show dark hornstone exposed. Length is 2&1/8" by 1&3/16", and a thin 5/16" max. thickness. The Paleo has had plenty of ancient sharpening action, and has a small degree of lateral/ basal grinding. Typing the lance into a recognized point category--being found in the Daviess or Ohio County, Kentucky, area you don't expect to see Hell Gap points, too far east, and the outre pas flaking seem more closely related to the Hi-Lo---too much flute for the Ohio Lanceolate type. Classifying Paleo transitional types is sometimes seizing on relevant characteristics (opinion), anyone else is free to disagree. One thing certain, every detail is lifetime guaranteed authentic. Shipping in the U.S. is $4.00, and checks are much preferred , day-after-receipt shipping--Roy A.
