This is a fantastic example of an Eskimo Oil Lamp which was found on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska. The piece is made from a steatite-type material with engraved patterns on two sides. and notching around the top including the top of the handle.
The lamp would be filled with oil in the round hole on the top near the handle and a wick would be placed in the long narrow slot. The 2 chambers are connected at their base. As the oil burned down, additional oil would be added in the round hole where it would enter the wick chamber from below to be burned.
There is slight damage near the front of the lamp on one side, but it does not detract from the overall shape and functionality of the lamp. This item comes with a 30-day return guarantee.
