Whether you type the Ohio Side Notch as a Big Sandy or as a Newton Falls, it --assuming the basal edge is as heavily ground as seen on this particular point--it's Early Archaic Culture. Later cultures also made side notched types, but the grinding was lacking (if at all). This ex Bill Pesch Collection point is from Hamilton County--Cincy area is the best I can provide, purchased from one Bill's 'regular sources', based on his note cards. The flint is a multi-toned Hornstone, 2&1/16" by slightly over 1&5/16", and my caliper barely goes over 1/4" max thickness--thin point, extra well knapped. One blade edge shows considerably more work than the opposite side (as usual)--if the knife was mounted in a slightly curved antler beam you used the down edge for cutting--top edge did you little good, it was awkward to use (same as a modern steel knife).--you see slight salvage on a barb, it has a use-worn feel. Patina is excellent, every detail is lifetime guaranteed authentic. Shipping is $5.00, checks or M.O.s are welcomed. Please note I do NOT use paypal--Roy A.
