A Gibson county, Indiana, side notched Big Sandy Broadbase--the width of those basal side notches being impressive (barely under 1&1/4")--when you consider the length of the piece is only 3/16" longer than the width, it tells you there was considerably more blade as-first-made--yet VERY thin, 3.5 sixteenths. The 'rippled' scar of an ancient impact fracture shows down from the tip. This kind of workmanship, this level of skill, it's Early Archaic artistry. The basal edge, as you'd expect, is ground, but the grinding is slightly less than the same point with an auriculate base--those seem to have super heavy edge grinding, not so much as the variety with a straight basal edge. The finder worked sites off the Wabash River-- & I would like to know exactly which field he was hunting, but this piece is coming out of an estate, is the field even plowed any longer--doubt that (if it is) the ground-turning is deep enough to bring quality finds (like this point) to the surface--old story there for too many of us. A good piece of Hornstone, guaranteed authentic, never so much as washed of the field dirt. Shipping is $7.00 due to the new post office shipping charges. I welcome three payment types: checks, cash, or M.O.s, but do not use paypal-type payment services--Roy A.
