I've tried three different deglossing agents, the piece still has a shine that seems impossible (to be natural). Either the flint is naturally this way, or it's something that even acetone doesn't cut, and acetone usually cuts through ANY petroleum based product--maybe Xylene will do it, haven't tried that one yet (kind of hard on the hands, though, lol). So, assume that is the previous owner DID clear coat the piece, it's going to stay this glossy. The point came out of a southwest Indiana collection, but the flint is the Kentucky Blue variety found near the north end of Ft. Knox, same area that produces Muldrough Chert, Brandenburg, KY, area. I'd have to suppose this thin 2&1/4" long Waubesa came from somewhere along the Ohio River in that area--Hopewell related, so you can generally assume a 'river connection' for a Waubesa--that's where the Hopewell made their camps. The piece is guaranteed authentic, but if you've read this far you know I'm not convinced of the surface gloss--I think it was applied by a modern owner. Shipping is $6.00 checks, cash, or M.O.s, but please note I do not take paypal--Roy A.
