The lack of basal edge grinding on this Jackson County, Illinois, piece would point me towards the Late Archaic Period for typing it, however the intentional bevel sharpening of the blade, that's more Early Archaic work, more what you'd expect from a Hardin, even a Stilwell (they were 'missing in action' when it came to basal grinding, too.. My opinion, it's related to those two Early Archaic types--someone else might see (focus on) some other feature. No problem, opinions are just that--100% lifetime guaranteed authentic, though. Length is just under 2&1/8", width is nearly 1&1/4" due to the one barb having simply been sharpened to death in the beveling process. The blade--your hands will feel the wear, long used. One note--the Kaolin flint looks like it was changed in color by fire, probably not intentionally, but a chunk of raw flint could have been used as a fire ring, the heat altered it. Great color. Shipping is $6.00, checks, cash, or M.O.s welcomed, paypal is not taken--Roy A.
