That long basal auricle is a sure 'marker' of a Paleo Quad--but why did they salvage the opposite auricle? Did the Late Paleo piece start this way, or was it a salvage of the piece as it went through later sharpening actions--or, was there not enough flint in the starting preform to fashion a longer auricle--no matter how many times you pick the piece up you go back and re-appraise your answer. 100% real, but it's a piece that'll make you think. Basal grinding is excellent, grinding around both auricles. The piece came from a Union County, Illinois, collection--a form of Burlington with considerable iron in the chert--the red/ ruddy color--measures 1&1/16" by 1", only 1/4" max thickness. Neat, authentic Paleo. Shipping is $5.00 with checks or M.O.s welcomed. Sorry, I don't use paypal--Roy A.
