Figuring out what the point is (A Late Adena-into-Hopewell Waubesa), that's easy--flaking style, basal form, those are pure Overstreet 'textbook', but what's the material--that's a question I can't supply an answer for. Is it a heat treated Kaolin, almost 'crystalized? Is it a Rose Hill or a Payson--unsure. The Jackson--Union county, Illinois, collector has just one piece, just this one in his estate. Superb flint, slightly translucent when back-lit; length is 3&7/16" by almost 1&7/16", with a fairly thick body that's a full 7/16" in the center (not exactly a medial ridge, but the piece is thickest along the spine). stem edges are not ground. Both barbs end in flat spots due to blade sharpening--the stem is also flat based which could be either a chip or a deliberate snap to aid in hafting the knife. You know the flake-off is there, you'll have to decide if it was done deliberately, or as part of use. Patina is excellent, guaranteed authentic. Shipping is $5.00 with checks or M.O.s welcomed. Sorry, I don't use paypal--Roy A.
