69385--Decent Illinois Axe
Ships for $10, Priority Mail--Full Groove Early Archaic Axe from either Edwards or Wabash County, Illinois--3&3/16" by 2&5/8", 1&13/16" max thickness. The axe is a glacial granite, which just means the 7500BP maker went to the nearby Wabash River, found a granite cobble and started pecking the piece to shape--LOTS of polish, the bit area is extremely well polished. The heel shows some 'dimples' that were part of the exterior shape of the starting rock, plus a thin use-dinged area (size of a quarter) where the piece was used more as a hammer than an axe.The bit shows some wear, but not excessive, still a very good edge.
