Purchased some time back from a far western Kentucky creek hunter--Crittenden County area. The big Benton measures slightly over 4"--not quite to 4&1/16" by 1&3/4"--thick blade, between 7/16" and 1/2". For a chert, the piece has quite a gloss to it, and while taking a few photos for the listing I decided to use acetone to clean the piece--the surface is still glossy, the tissue came out fairly clean. Either the finder used something acetone won't cut, or the shine is natural--if it a petro chemical, acetone would have removed the shine, works every time, and never harms natural patina (per Dwain Rogers). So, for now, I'm assuming the Benton was found this way--not perfect, it's a work knife after all, and it's real. Shipping is $6.00 with both checks and money orders welcomed, but paypal is not taken--Roy A.
