68825--Heavily polished Greenstone Celt,Illinois
Out of the Union/ Jackson County, Illinois, area, one of the more highly polished Celts I've had in-hand. Length is 4&7/8" by 2&9/16", and at the center thickness is 1&9/16". For such a fine bit, the highly worked overall polish, why the heel wasn't finished-out is a puzzle--you'd think the Woodland maker would have pecked and polished that last remaining detail. It keeps the price more reasonable, that's all I can say--neat piece. One note: the weight of this Greenstone will surprise you, it feels like it's almost twice as heavy as a comparable granite Celt--must be some incredibly dense stone--and it also means the piece has to ship by Priority Mail, included with the price.
