It took a year after retirement, but we finally took off for our vacation. We went to the Tetons, Yellowstone, Glaciar, crossed the border into Canada and saw Banff and Jasper. Back in the USA, we traveled the East side of Yellowstone and finished in Rocky Mountain National Park outside of Denver. At the Bill Cody Museum in Cody, Wyoming, I learned that Wild Bills reputation took a giant step forward when he fought, killed, and scalped Yellowhair, a well known Cheyenne warrior while guiding for Colonel Merritt. I will attach the photo of the painting. It is called the battle of Warbonnett Creek because Yellowhair was wearing his warbonnett. As the story goes, Wild Bill was actually in his stage clothing when it took place. This happened a few days after Little Big Horn, so you can bet tensions were high. If you have a chance, I would definitely put the museum on your bucket list. It is a class act Museum with many Plains Indian artifacts including one of the few remaining 1850's era Teepees. Sorry, no Cody Culture artifacts. We were 10 miles away from the Museum at Folsom, but it was after 5 so I'm sure they were closed. Oh Well, save something for next time. If you have thought about going, here is my summation. For beauty, hiking, boat ride in crystal clear waters, and great, affordable accomadations, it is hard to beat The Grand Tetons and Jenny Lake. For one of the most beautiful drives in the world, Going to the Sun road in Glaciar is beyond compare. Jasper has glaciars on every mountain and waterfalls that just reach out and grab you. Yellowstone is the largest active volcanoe in the world, throw in a gorgeous, multi-colored canyon, the Yellowstone River waterfall at the beginning of the canyon, herds of Buffalo, and you will never forget it. For a huge glaciar ending in a pristine lodge and a thundering downtown waterfall, visit Louise Lake and the village of Banff. The trip through the tundra on one of the highest elevation roads in the U.S., herds of Elk, roaring rivers, just outside a major metropolitan city, visit Rocky Mountain National Park. Each is unique and has something special for the ages to share.
