A Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, Clovis, hornstone, restored on the tip and on one auricle. Length measures 2&3/4", but due to the inexperience of the restorer the tip was made an eighth too short, the tip made more 'round' than any Clovis knapper would have considered usable. The one restored auricle was made to proportion, but again there is a difference in how a professional recreates flake scars and how a do-it-yourself "sights" the knapping--while the Paleo will display fine as-is, I'd recommend it be sent to an artist such as Etchison or Bushey. The last owner of the Paleo didn't indicate if the damage was ancient, however the lance has an impact fracture break pattern extending to the medial ridge--it hit bone, and hit it very hard. Basal and later grinding are both excellent, flutes to each face were both deep, and long. Original length, considering flutes were approximately one-third the total length, was nearly 4". Flint was valuable and scarce, a Clovis was sharpened many times over it's work life. Every detail of the piece is lifetime guaranteed authentic and as described. Shipping is free, and payment to be by either check or money order--Roy A.
