Price: $ 30.00 Status: Available
The 'ruddy' (hemitite) color band in the flint is more on the order of Sonora flint, color generally not seen in hornstone. Coming from an old collection found east of Owensboro, Kentucky, though, either flint could be right. Length is 3" by 1&3/16", and the length is probably an eighth or more short due to ancient tip damage. Whether the piece hit a bone, or was levered against something hard, the end of the tip snapped-off, and has patinated the same as the body of the point. With all the shell mains these Mid Archaic Table Rock types are found on, my bet is it was used to pry open a mussel shell. There is no use polish over the area, so this may have happened just before it was lost. The basal edge was knapped to the flat edge of the starting flake/ preform, part of the stem was thinned to the edge, part was left flat. Nice workmanship, in spite of the tip, and guaranteed authentic. Checks or money orders much preferred, pay pal accepted--Roy A.
